Fashion influencing Interiors...

Because my job is to think interiors day in and day out, I like to escape once in a while into the glorious world of high fashion...  It's the sister to interiors, and they go hand in hand, but in the same regard are miles apart from each other...  Scanning over the latest collections from the Milan 2012 collections just goes to show that style is style and fashion can be so wonderfully translated into interiors, it's a perfect place to start if you're stuck with what to do in your space...  Pick an outfit you love, or tear out your favorite advertisement from Pucci or Louis Vuitton and use that as the basis for that living room scheme you've been agonizing over...  Check this out...

Roberto Cavalli

Leather pieces in brown, mustard accents and a simple neutral palate as a foundation translates quite easily from runway, to relaxation room...

Etro

Strutting down the a light weight suit, punched up with tropical colors like a guava fruit, is exactly the easy feel of this casual and colorful seating area.  Simple and structured pieces are brought to life with patterned accessories...

Dolce & Gabbana

What's more timeless and sleek than a monochromatic outfit or room... It's chic and sophisticated.  Black and grey will forever be in style and a classic scheme for a room...

Pure Madman, Pure Genius!... McQueen...

There are very very few times when I really feel moved by exhibitions of any sort, but I just got the opportunity yesterday to gaze upon the brilliance that was Alexander McQueen's madness and genius.  The Metropolitan Museum of Art has put together one hell of an impressive installation, highlighting the triumphs in this designer's all too short life.  His mind thought like no other, and constructed garments with impeccable details and precision.  The use of unconventional coutuier textiles, and methods broke down barriers of what is clothing and what is art...

I was extremely lucky to have had a private tour through the exhibit, which I am very grateful for.  I was able to stop, absorb and be inspired, be disturbed, be moved by the moving images, the smells, the sounds of this world.

I will readily admit, that I am in no way shape or form a fashionista, but you need not be to have a strong emotional response to McQueen's work.  I always found his fashion sense to be intriguing, but now experiencing this first hand, I feel the power of his work.  I'm urging everyone, if you have the opportunity to go, and see this show before it is no more...

Bringing it back to the world of interiors, The Met's installation of the garments is nothing short of perfection.  Room after room, every detail is addressed... The floors, the walls, the ceilings, lighting, smells, textures, sounds... It gives me goosebumps thinking about it.  Go, that's all I can say... Go!

Whitewashed wood planks...

The family just took a quick trip down to the shore today and being down by the water always makes me think about beautiful white painted or white washed wood planks... Such a gorgeous, simple and clean way to make a visual statement without hitting you over the head...

It's one of the easiest treatments to actually get installed, especially if the wood is already stained in the color you want...  You can basically go to any flooring supplier and scan through quite a few different options of whitewashed, cerused, limed or pickled woods, all of which, in lay man's terms amount to treating the wood and giving it a lighter, bleached out or whitened finish...  It's a great option for people who just are not able to commit to colors in their house, but would like a focal wall... Perfect solution!

Moroccan rugs, always a great base...

Designers all have so many different ways of constructing and creating spaces... Some start with furniture or fabric selections, some go based off color choice, or some work from the ground up...  Using something as neutral and textural, but still super chic and interesting as a Moroccan rug is a great way to integrate into an already developed design and color palette or a wonderful start to build upon.  I just love the simple tribal patterning of them, and their always complimentary tones...  When in doubt, a Moroccan rug is always a no brainer...

All these rugs are from Stark Carpet's Moroccan collection... So chic, so simple, so beautiful in any environment...

Chic interior + yummy frozen yogurt = FLAVABOOM

What happens when the most delicious frozen treat collides with a ridiculously cool and ultra modern designed lounge?  Well the answer is the chicest new hotspot in Haute Desserts, and that's Flavaboom!  A buddy of mine came up with the concept and within a few short months had his vision implemented into the most amazing hang out...

I went for the grand opening a couple weeks ago and sampled only 5 out of the 10 yogurt flavor offerings, not to mention the 40 toppings!... That would make, well, a hell of a lot of combinations of yumminess!  And let me tell you, the Peanut Butter yogurt was to die for!!!

Go check them out at 17th Street and 6th Avenue in NYC... The most awesome concept in gourmet yogurt!

Magnetic Glass Marker Boards...

How ingenious and beautiful an idea is that?  Magnetic Glass Marker Boards, installed in your kitchen or office...  Write notes to the kids, while they can use the magnetic feature to hang their artwork and report cards.  Such a great idea, and super versatile, fitting in anyone's decor... Of course this could only be brought to you by the amazing people over at Bendheim...  It's the perfect solution for so many problems, and when it's not in use, it's just a gorgeous piece of glass...
